Epididymal hypertension, also known as “blue balls,” is a colloquial term for a condition where there is discomfort, pain, or aching in the testicles and groin area after sexual arousal without ejaculation. It’s believed to occur due to the increased blood flow to the genital area during sexual stimulation, which can cause congestion and discomfort if not relieved.

The duration of epididymal hypertension can vary from person to person. In most cases, the discomfort and pain associated with this condition typically subside on their own once the arousal decreases and blood flow returns to normal. This might happen within a few minutes to a few hours. Engaging in physical activity, taking a warm bath, or using over-the-counter pain relievers may also help alleviate the discomfort.
