Directed by Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin in their respective directorial debuts, the comedy-drama road movie “Dog” chronicles the feisty adventure of a man and a dog. US Army Ranger Briggs (Channing Tatum) receives the briefing on his next mission, which is a little tricky. He must escort Lulu, a Belgian Malinois military working dog, to his master’s funeral, in a race against time. In the sprawling journey from a military base north of Washington to Nogales, Arizona, the duo of Briggs and Lulu form a close bond.

Dog filming locations

“Dog” was filmed in and around the United States, particularly in California. Filming reportedly began around mid-2020 and ended sometime after. According to Tatum, three different dogs were roped in to play the fictional dog character Lulu. The film, in turn, remembers Tatum’s own dog of the same name, a pit bull-Catahoula mix, who died in 2018 of cancer.

Newton Thomas Sigel, whose credits include “The Usual Suspects”, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Drive”, served as the film’s cinematographer. Los Angeles County, California

The film is supposed to be a trip across the country. However, most of the filming took place in and around California, particularly in Los Angeles County. “Dog” is also one of the first movies to resume filming following the ease of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. The production team captured several footage in Santa Clarita, a California town in Los Angeles County, approximately 33 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

Several interior sequences were shot at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, a 4-star accommodation located at 506 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. From the 1984 film ‘Ghostbusters’ to David Fincher’s ‘The Game’, an array of world-famous productions have been filmed on the hotel’s premises.

The crew filmed additional footage in Lancaster, a charter city in northern Los Angeles County. It sits in the middle of the sparsely populated Antelope Valley of the Western Mojave Desert. Additionally, additional footage was shot in Valencia, a quaint unincorporated community in the northwest part of Los Angeles County.

Monterey County, California

Some filming took place in Monterey County along California’s Big Sur coast. On its western side is the Pacific Ocean, while the Santa Lucia Mountains characterize the eastern front. The picturesque view makes the coastline a coveted area for long drives. A scene from the film features the Bixby Creek Bridge, a spectacular open spandrel arch bridge located on Route 1. Due to its iconic architecture, it has become one of the most photographed bridges in the state.
